Deeper Questions

What do you do at IOI?

My contract says I do Sound Design but I would like to think that I also do other things like contribute to the studio vibe, make people feel at home and connected among each other. My goal is to make people feel comfortable and at ease. Professionally I create, record and implement sounds into our games…and I test the game I work on A LOT!

Can you tell us more about yourself?

Sure! I am 1,90m tall, half German, half Austrian and I have always loved being playful in life. I grew up on 3 different continents and love making people smile. I have quite a musical background and although I haven’t done it in a long time, I compose my own music. Oh and I love colour!

What's your daily source of inspiration?

I draw from all aspects of life – mainly after work but also from the energy and passion of those around me. It helps to have other well sounding games out there to listen to and think “How did they do that so well?” and feeling inspired to achieve that level of quality yourself.

Why are you passionate about what you do?

I love Sound and the endless ways of manipulating it. The collaboration aspect during the production of a video game really spurs me on because it is fascinating how games can be developed in so many directions and that you are part of this process.

What projects do you work on outside of work?

I used to freelance more a couple of years ago, working on some indie games on the side but now I am looking at starting my own. I was hoping to compose more music again and hopefully I can encourage myself to create some songs for an album this year – we will see 😀

What's your most memorable IOI moment?

We went on a team building trip to a colleague’s house in Denmark where we recorded some sounds for Hitman 3 and we spent the weekend talking about games, grilling and the future. That was a very special experience and brought us colleagues together!

What's the best bit of advice you've ever been given?

I don’t remember exactly how to paraphrase it from German but my father told me something that he was told by someone in the family. It basically says “If you don’t ask, you won’t get” and it has inspired me to always say or ask something, even if it is uncomfortable or you have doubt – you never know what you might get out a simple question 😊
