Deeper Questions

What do you do at IOI?

I am a UI programmer, so I am responsible, along with my fellow UI programmers, for the technology that drives the menus and HUDs in our games. I got some tasks that are not strictly UI programming specific as well – for one, I have been the one pushing the ‘deploy’ button for most of the livedrops we have done during the Hitman trilogy, so that’s kind of fun.

Can you tell us more about yourself?

I am 35, I have a Master’s in Computer Science, and I have worked at IOI since 2016. I have never had any other job in the IT industry. I like many kinds of games, but these days I primarily am playing strategy games like Civilization and Europa Universalis.

What's your daily source of inspiration?

Music is. I dig a lot of music across many genres and I have a pretty large collection. In particular, I love techno, dance music and electronic music in general (my favorite act is Autechre). I also really like jazz.

Why are you passionate about what you do?

It’s exciting to know that so many people enjoy our product! I love games, even though I don’t always feel I have the time to play them as much as I would like. It is always awesome to see the reaction when our stuff goes out to the community.

What projects do you work on outside of work?

Well I have a game project that I have been working on sometimes, but it is now postponed until I go on pension since I can’t really handle begin sat in front of a keyboard both at day and night lol. I try to dabble in music, and I love just spinning records with my friends.

What's your most memorable IOI moment?

The path from being perilously close to not existing to now being a successful and independent studio has been very remarkable and I am proud to have been here during that time – and yeah there was some pretty memorable moments along that path.

What's the best bit of advice you've ever been given?

Don’t follow advice 😉
